From following a young Russian tsarina to navigating the teenage world of mean girls, the magic of Broadway plays out throughout the year at The Granada Theatre, thanks to a long-standing partnership with the American Theatre Guild.
The American Theatre Guild presents national touring productions of Broadway’s beloved shows in select theaters across the country, including The Granada. It’s the largest not-for-profit touring Broadway presenter in the nation. They’ve brought the best of Broadway to the Granada since the theater’s reopening in 2008.
“There was a need in Santa Barbara for Broadway shows and The Granada was the venue of choice for us,” said Craig Aikman, Senior Director Booking Operations for The American Theatre Guild. “We really value the relationship we have with the venue and the local community support. It’s a great collaboration to bring in these wonderful productions.”
Broadway Show Selection
In an average year, there are about 50 Broadway touring productions that make their way across the United States. Choosing what shows come to The Granada is a complex process.
“It’s like a big jigsaw puzzle,” said Aikman. “We look at what shows are touring, which shows are on the West Coast and which shows we can secure based on the dates that are open at the Granada.”
Each season, The American Theatre Guild surveys its Granada audience to gather their input on which shows to bring in for the following season.
“If The Granada has an interest in a specific title, we will try and get it in,” said Aikman. “We always try and bring in the coolest, most unique shows that people want to see.”
Upcoming Season
For the 2024/2025 season, The American Theatre Guild is bringing Clue, Mean Girls, Ain’t Too Proud and The Addams Family to The Granada as part of its Broadway in Santa Barbara series. It will also stage special performances of MOMIX: Alice and Stomp. Tickets for all shows are available now.
“We want to bring the magic of Broadway to your backyard,” said Aikman. “You don’t need to travel to New York City to see amazing, professional theater. You just need to head to The Granada.”
